Will Biden Invoke the Fourteenth Amendment to Avoid Default?
The whole debt ceiling debacle is unconstitutional
I have a suggestion. Every incoming freshman congressperson should be required to take and pass a course on the Constitution. If they don’t attend or don’t pass, they can’t be seated.
What do you think? Would this solve a lot of our problems?
Like the debt ceiling. Would it surprise you to learn that it pisses me off to no end when the Republicans hold the debt ceiling hostage criticizing Democrats for spending too much when the truth is that the debt ceiling needs to be raised to accommodate spending that has already been approved, sometimes by the very people who are refusing to raise the debt ceiling to accommodate that pre-approved spending?
But Republicans don’t tell their base that. They try to make the Democrats the bad guys.
Now about that class on the Constitution. If Republicans actually followed the Constitution that they claim to hold so dear, there wouldn’t be any nonsense about debt ceilings.
It’s right there in Section Four of the Fourteenth Amendment:
“The validity of the public debt of the United States … shall not be questioned.”
