Will DeSantis Drop Out of the Race Before the Florida Primary?

He is rapidly fading away

Boy, if you ever wanted to know how far Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) has fallen, you only had to look at what happened at the Florida Freedom Summit that was held on Saturday, November 4.

“Florida Freedom Summit” is an oxymoron. The words “Florida” and “Freedom” have nothing to do with each other and in our reality should never appear in the same sentence together. But this was a Republican event so “Florida Freedom” made perfect sense.

It was sponsored by the Florida Republican Party and included all the usual suspects. Matt Gaetz was there. The Republicans running for president were there. Nikki Haley was conspicuous by her absence. Her campaign gave no indication of why she decided to skip this event.

Most importantly, DeSantis and Trump had a chance to square off against one another.

It was pathetic. DeSantis didn’t even mention Trump in his speech. Trump, of course, reveled in belittling DeSantis, with name-calling, reminding everyone in attendance that DeSantis had asked (begged, with tears in his eyes, in Trump’s telling) for his endorsement when he was running for governor in 2018, and calling DeSantis disloyal for running against him in the primary.
