Yes, I get that. And it may help him in the primaries, but it will work against him in the general if he is the Republican nominee. He will need to move to the middle and I just can't see how that will be possible as his positions become more and more extreme. You can't win the nomination and then say "Oops, I didn't mean any of that."

The same thing goes for the Democratic candidate also. They will have to moderate their positions to attract the most voters.
