You are not taking two things into account.

1. Senate Majority/Minority Leaders are elected by their caucus. The point of my article is that that caucus is turning against him, in fact campaigning on the fact that they will not vote for him as Leader.
2. Trump wants to get rid of McConnell. And Trump’s word is law right now. Republicans follow Trump’s wishes not their own.

McConnell is toast. The only remaining question is will he resign/retire now or later.
