You don't know much about presidential elections, do you? Primary elections, where voters decide who runs for president, did not exist before 1968. Prior to 1968, presidential candidates were chosen at the party conventions, usually held in mid-summer, by the party leaders. Voters were expected to suck it up and support the candidate chosen for them. The campaign commenced after the convention. Our custom of multi-year presidential campaigns are a direct result of the introduction of primary elections. If you look at other democracies around the world, you will see that they all have short campaign periods of a month or two.
It is not "insane" as you claim to wait until the convention to choose a candidate and then hold a shortened campaign. We would just be reverting to a historical norm that held for almost 200 years.
I recommend that you do some research before leaving insulting comments on other people's articles. You are only making yourself look very, very foolish.
